Once upon a time, there was a girl who came by cooking and fitness with a natural flair. Haha… Who are we kidding?
My name is Kate.
The day I came home with my daughter in 2011, I stood on the scale in shock. I was a mere 24lbs from hitting 300lbs. How did I let myself get this way? I never made myself a priority. That day I decided that I needed to make myself as much of a priority as my baby girl was because without me, she wouldn’t have a momma.
My reasons for wanting to change my life are simple – HEALTH and FUTURE. I was diagnosed with Bradycardia, Arrhythmia, and a Heart Murmur a few months prior to getting pregnant 4 years ago, making some days more difficult than others. My husband, D, was diagnosed with MS 2 years ago and we are working thru the health and life implications of that. Around the same time, our daughter, M (who I will mainly refer to as mini me), was diagnosed with food allergies to 5 of the most common allergens – eggs, milk, fish, shellfish, and peanuts. She has since grown out of the shellfish and fish allergies, but everyday is a struggle with the others.
I am now down over 100lbs, and have learned so much about myself thru my journey. I always knew I loved to cook, but being able to create healthy, clean recipes for my family has changed my life! I enjoy experimenting with foods that are in season, that are fresh, and that are whole.
I have a small home gym, where I am challenging myself to lift heavy in order to reach my final goal of being a certain size, taking the focus from the scale. I have learned that I love to run, and completed my first 10K in August 2014.
